As the National Capital Region (NCR) and nearby provinces such as Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Bulacan would be under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) from August 4 – 18, 2020, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) released an Advisory dated August 3, 2020 announcing the following:

  1. BI Offices in the areas under MECQ shall be operating on skeleton workforce;
  2. All confirmed online appointments during the MECQ period are deemed cancelled. Clients are to reapply for appointment once the MECQ has been lifted;
  3. Slots in the BI’s online appointment system are intended only for clients intending to depart the Philippines for securing Emigration Clearance Certificate (ECC). Such clients are required to present confirmed outbound tickets prior to entry to the BI’s premises;
  4. Suspension of below transactions:
    • Filing of conversion to/extension of non-immigrant visa
    • Filing of applications regarding Filipino citizenship including RA 9225 (Dual Citizenship)
    • Visa downgrading
    • Tourist Visa extension*
    • Special Work Permit (SWP)/Provisional Work Permit (PWP)
    • I-Card renewal
    • Visa implementation

*Aliens whose tourist visas will expire during the MECQ are directed to pay their visa extensions at the airport, provided that overstaying is not more than six (6) months.
